The 30th session, 3rd meeting of the Board of Directors and Supervisors of the Pan-Latin American Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce and the General Assembly were held in São Paulo, Brazil, from the 19th to the 21st. On the evening of the 19th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a banquet to welcome 200 Taiwanese business leaders, overseas community leaders, and young business representatives from 19 countries in Central and South America, creating a lively atmosphere. Distinguished guests included Overseas Community Affairs Council Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching, Representative to Brazil Liao Chih-hsien, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in São Paulo Chu Yi-ching, Director of the Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Service Center Yu Cheng-tsai, and Advisor to the Executive Yuan Yang Kuo-hsien. Representative Liao Chih-hsien stated in his speech that Latin America is a land full of vitality and potential. Taiwanese businesses have taken root here by crossing half the globe, overcoming language barriers and cultural differences, and demonstrating resilience amidst drastic changes in the global economic and trade environment. He emphasized that Taiwanese businesses, with the "Taiwanese spirit," have created magnificent enterprises. They are not only the "light of Taiwan" but also important drivers of local economic development and employment. Liao Chih-hsien echoed the concept of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, "Everyone is a diplomat," pointing out that Taiwanese business associations are the most crucial non-governmental diplomatic force for Taiwan in Latin America. Whether promoting bilateral trade, participating in public welfare and charity, or supporting Taiwan's accession to international organizations, Taiwanese businesses have always been at the forefront, allowing the world to see Taiwan's kindness and strength. Director-General Chu Yi-ching of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in São Paulo emphasized in her speech that overseas compatriots are "divine teammates" in diplomacy. Taiwanese businesses are not only successful in their ventures abroad but also promote the Taiwanese spirit of integrity and innovation. They actively assist the government in promoting people-to-people diplomacy in their host countries, becoming the most solid backing for Taiwan to connect with the world. Chu Yi-ching thanked the overseas Chinese community for their long-term support of government policies, which has broadened Taiwan's international space, and expressed hope that this meeting would spark more collaborative initiatives. Overseas Community Affairs Council Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching humorously mentioned the dilemma of "who to support" during the World Cup football match between Brazil and Taiwan's diplomatic ally Haiti that evening. She pointed out that although football is not Taiwan's national sport, overseas compatriots participate in various ways around the world, showcasing the strength of the "Taiwan team" in fields such as economy, culture, technology, and healthcare. She emphasized that overseas compatriots are Taiwan's representative team, allowing the world to see Taiwan through their various efforts. President Lin Hsing-chao of the General Association stated in his speech that he thanked Taiwanese businesses from various regions for gathering in São Paulo from afar, demonstrating the cohesion and unity of the Taiwanese business family. He noted that Brazil is a country of football, and samba is the rhythm of the heartbeat. This annual meeting coincides with the World Cup, filling the streets with cheers, symbolizing the passion and vitality of Brazilian Taiwanese businesses. He hoped that the attendees would feel the enthusiasm of Brazilian overseas compatriots and the deep affection and pride of the overseas Chinese community for Taiwan. The event was a joyous occasion for all. Attendees expressed their hope that this grand assembly would unite the strength of the overseas Chinese community, creating a broader future for Taiwanese businesses and Taiwan's development abroad.
