The CTBC Brothers of the Chinese Professional Baseball League announced yesterday (19th) that pitcher Hsu Chi-lin, 26, had a drunk driving accident last September but concealed it from the team. After the court's judgment was made public, his serious illegal and disciplinary behavior was exposed, and his contract was terminated immediately. According to the summary criminal judgment of the Pingtung District Court in Taiwan, Hsu Chi-lin drank at a friend's residence in Jiouru Township, Pingtung County on the evening of September 14 last year. He drove the next day around 6 AM and crashed into a roadside utility pole, causing his car to overturn and resulting in injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, police administered a breathalyzer test to Hsu Chi-lin, which showed his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit. Hsu Chi-lin was sentenced to 5 months in prison, commutable to a fine of NT$1,000 per day. Hsu Chi-lin was selected by the Brothers in the second round of the 2022 draft. At the end of last year, he was not included in the Brothers' reserved player list. At that time, the team stated: "Due to personal financial reasons and lifestyle discipline issues that have affected the team, it was decided to remove Hsu Chi-lin from the 60-man roster as a warning." The Brothers still had a contract with Hsu Chi-lin. In the absence of contact from other teams, the club continued to fulfill its contractual obligations with Hsu Chi-lin. Hsu Chi-lin still has appearances in the CPBL's second league this year. According to a statement released by the Brothers, drunk driving seriously endangers social safety, and the subsequent concealment of the incident is a grave matter. The club, in accordance with CPBL regulations and the player contract, immediately dismissed Hsu Chi-lin and terminated the contract relationship, holding him liable for damages due to the major breach of contract as stipulated.
