The Central Weather Administration stated that before the 24th, the weather will be sunny to cloudy across the island, with western high temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius. Typhoon Mikala, which formed today (20th), is expected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon by the 22nd. It will gradually turn north after the 23rd, approaching Taiwan most closely on the 25th and 26th. Its path is still under observation, and the issuance of a sea warning is not ruled out. According to the official website of the Central Weather Administration, this year's seventh typhoon, Mikala, formed today. At 2 PM, its center was located at 14.3 degrees North latitude and 136.7 degrees East longitude, moving northwest-west at a speed of 23 kilometers per hour. Weather forecaster Cheng Chieh-jen of the Administration stated that before the 23rd, the typhoon will be guided by the Pacific high-pressure system, moving rapidly northwest-west. After the 23rd, it will gradually turn north, heading towards the waters east of Taiwan or the sea south of Ryukyu. The position and angle of its northward turn are mainly influenced by the strength of the Pacific high-pressure system, but there is still some uncertainty. Cheng Chieh-jen pointed out that Mikala is predicted to be closest to Taiwan on the 25th and 26th, and the issuance of a sea warning is not ruled out, but further observation is needed. Regarding typhoon intensity, Cheng Chieh-jen stated that the environment will be more conducive to Mikala's development in the next 2-3 days, with it expected to strengthen into a moderate typhoon by the 22nd. However, as the typhoon turns north, the overall atmospheric environment will gradually become less favorable for its development, and its intensity and scope may gradually weaken. Concerning the weather for the upcoming week, Cheng Chieh-jen indicated that the weather will be similar until June 24th, with sunny to cloudy skies across the island, high temperatures, and scattered brief thunderstorms in the mountains in the afternoon. Specifically, there may be scattered brief showers in southern Taiwan on the morning of the 24th. Cheng Chieh-jen said that as Typhoon Mikala moves northward from the waters east of Taiwan on the 25th and 26th, Taiwan will be on the edge of the high-pressure system, influenced by the southwest monsoon, leading to a slight increase in moisture. Southern Taiwan will experience localized brief showers or thunderstorms; other areas will be cloudy with localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. Cheng Chieh-jen noted that Typhoon Mikala is expected to gradually move away by the 27th, with cloudy to sunny skies across the island and localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. Regarding temperatures, Cheng Chieh-jen stated that before the 24th, temperatures in eastern Taiwan will be around 32-34 degrees Celsius, and in western Taiwan, around 34-37 degrees Celsius. Local areas such as the foothills of central and southern Taiwan, greater Taipei, and the Hualien-Taitung valley may experience even higher temperatures. Cheng Chieh-jen pointed out that from the 25th to the 27th, high temperatures will slightly decrease, with general highs across Taiwan around 31-34 degrees Celsius. As for the low temperatures this week, they will not change much, remaining between 24-27 degrees Celsius. Source Link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=215685
