Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung pointed out that Taiwan is an indispensable partner for Europe's re-industrialization. Taiwan can engage in advanced manufacturing and mass production, not just semiconductor cooperation. He also revealed that during the recent France-Africa Summit convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, France sought, through various channels, Taiwan's recommendation of major electronics companies to assist in establishing sovereign AI in Africa.
Lin Chia-lung was interviewed by Liu Fang-tzu, host of Formosa TV's "News Observation Station," with the program airing this afternoon (the 20th).
Lin Chia-lung stated that he has visited Europe five times since becoming Foreign Minister. After the Russia-Ukraine war, Europe is most concerned about "re-industrialization" and re-arming Europe. However, Europe's manufacturing capacity has been disrupted, and Taiwan can engage in advanced manufacturing and mass production. Therefore, it's not just TSMC cooperating with Europe on semiconductors; the entire ICT industry, servers, data centers, etc., are also needed by Europe. This is because computing power is necessary for AI, so Taiwan can play a role and become an indispensable partner for Europe.
Lin Chia-lung revealed that during the recent Africa Forward Summit convened by Macron in Kenya, France sought, through various channels, Taiwan's recommendation of major electronics companies to establish AI data centers and AI computing power. Macron also stated in front of leaders from various countries at the meeting that the EU and Taiwan would cooperate in Africa to help Africa establish sovereign AI.
Lin Chia-lung analyzed that France does not want to follow China's "red supply chain" but also does not want to be subject to US President Trump. Taiwan is ready and can cooperate with France at any time. However, Taiwan's partners are not limited to France; recent investment and cooperation projects are numerous, including advanced packaging, satellites, and satellite cooperation. He stated that Taiwan's presence is now spread across the United States, Japan, and Europe. If Europe wants to re-industrialize and re-arm, "without Taiwan, it will be very difficult for them to achieve this goal."
Lin Chia-lung said that Taiwan has always focused on "value diplomacy" but aims to develop it into "value-added diplomacy," creating greater added value for allies and making Taiwan indispensable.
Regarding his next trip to Europe, Lin Chia-lung revealed that he will attend the "Europe Taiwan Image Exhibition" to be grandly held in Warsaw, Poland, on the 22nd. This exhibition, organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), covers fields such as AI, smart cities, healthcare, and transportation, for which Taiwan has complete solutions. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also mentioned in his parliamentary report the development of a strategic partnership with Taiwan in technology, which is why Taiwan can expand its reach.
